How SpaceAG was founded

SpaceAG was founded in October 2017 by Cesar Urrutia and Guillermo De Vivanco. Their vision was to transform agriculture into a sustainable industry that could feed a growing population while taking care of the planet. They will  develop digital solutions to bring productivity and efficiency to the industry, helping farmers increase their profits and create a positive impact both in the environment and in their communities.

Cesar is a biologist with a master’s degree in remote sensing and geographic information systems. Guillermo has plenty of experience with startups and business innovation. He co-founded the first angel investors network and seed VC fund in Peru. Both Cesar and Guillermo have close ties with agriculture. They realized that a huge amount of resources like water and fertilizers, as well as millions of dollars were wasted because of bad decisions in the farms.

Furthermore, there is a global shortage of workers in agriculture. Although 1 billion people are employed by agriculture around the globe, most of these people are small scale farmers living under poor conditions. Larger scale farmers are struggling to find people to harvest their fields. The rural population does not look at the farms as their first option, they want to move to the city in search of a better life. Agriculture is losing its biggest asset. We need to turn agriculture into a great place to work.

Cesar and Guillermo are both Peruvian. They decided to launch the company in their country. In recent years, Peru has become the largest exporter of blueberries and second exporter of avocados in the world. Space AG developed its digital solutions with the feedback and support of the biggest growers of the region. Today, Space AG has over 35 recurrent customers with over 1,000 users - from CEOs to harvesters - in 7 countries of Latin America.
